Born in Harold Wood, Romford 1988, David found an interest in music at the age of 7 through learning the clarinet at Engayne Junior School, Upminster. Since then his skills have developed within various related aspects including conducting, composing rehearsing and performing. Throughout his education, music has always played an important role and with the backing of his teachers, he has had many opportunities. These include setting up his own jazz band and composing for orchestra both at the age of 15 and winning Gold with the Coopers Coborn School Symphonic Windband at the National Concert Band Festival Finals (2005). During this time, David also took up the Soprano and Tenor Saxophone.
Outside of education David has developed his skills through being a member of the Royal British Legion Youth Band Brentwood where he became a Sergeant and led sectional rehearsals as well as taking solo lines in concerts.
Most recently, David studied at the Colchester Institute where he gained a BA Honours degree in music. During his time there he composed for professional ensembles including the Angell Trio, English Guitar Quartet and the Kingfisher Ensemble as well as took part in workshops led by Alan Bullard.
As you will establish from the composer section of the site, David has a love for large scale works in all aspects whether it be listening, writing or playing them. His favourite works are The Planets by Gustav Holst (1874-1934) and Enigma Variations by Edward Elgar (1857-1934), however he also carries an interest for late 20th Century - 21st Century composers including: Philip Glass, John Cage and Dave Heath.
